Background

Ramco was founded in 1996 with a big goal in mind, to give every surplus asset a new lease of life. That mission couldn’t be more relevant today. Based in Lincolnshire and operating internationally, Ramco is a circular economy specialist providing sustainable, profitable, and compliant asset reuse services to businesses and government departments alike.
With 26 years’ experience working across almost every market sector, Ramco offers clients complete peace of mind, treating every job in line with current Environmental and Health & Safety legislation.

Ramco’s mission is to stop valuable assets sitting idle, because none of us can afford to waste resources. Experts in reuse, their hassle-free, fully managed service finds new homes for surplus assets – protecting the environment, saving unnecessary storage costs and generating vital funds for their clients. Providing a complete asset reuse solution, Ramco handles everything from decommissioning, collection and refurbishment, right through to storage, marketing and sales

The business is well known for its longstanding partnerships with the public sector, including the Ministry of Defence and blue light emergency services. “Because we’re dedicated to giving new life to old equipment, less than 0.1% of the assets we handle goes to landfill. That means almost every piece of equipment we deal with goes back into operation - from vehicles, communication systems and catering equipment, to plant machinery and electrical goods.”

Support from UK-Centric Supply Chains

UK-Centric Supply Chains enabled Ramco to team up with a network of researchers to explore ways to strengthen their supply chain with a view to maximisingvmarket knowledge and identifying opportunities for growth. The relationship commenced with a supply chain readiness assessment to better understand Ramco’s maturity levels and a diagnostic report with initial recommendations then provided to help set the scene and aid future research.

The second phase of the project began with a more detailed review of Ramco’s business activities and supply chain mapping as well as an exploration of the foodservice industry across the UK. UK-Centric Supply Chains investigated the food service market to understand where the types of commercial catering equipment suitable for reuse could be located, in addition to assessing the environmental and reuse policies of target companies in the sector.

The findings of this investigation were provided and presented to Ramco, who gained a better understanding of the overall size of the market, target companies and the types and location of assets within the foodservice and contract catering industries.

Outcome

UK-Centric Supply Chain’s consultation helped Ramco in conducting an in-depth market review of the UK’s food service sector, enabling them to identify who owns surplus commercial kitchen assets and where they are located. The intervention with UK-Centric Supply Chains explored new opportunities for Ramco and helped them to identify target companies with similar ambitions towards reuse and circular economy. We have since been able to combine our improved knowledge and knowhow from the project with additional data and further research to improve our sustainable disposal offer.
